The members of the junior class that went all out for Opposite Day show off their outfits.

St. Mary hosted a spirit week leading up to Winter Formal, and each day students expressed their school spirit by dressing up according to different themes. All the concepts were entertaining; however, there was a widespread consensus of the popularity and success for each of the themes. Each day received its rank based on a strict criteria of uniqueness, costume creativity, overall student engagement, and good hallway vibes.

#1: Celebrities vs paparazzi day
Theme uniqueness: ★★★☆☆
Costume creativity: ★★★★★
Overall engagement: ★★★☆☆
Good Hallway Vibes: ★★★★★

With a solid participation percentage, the epic costume creativity, and hallway guessing games, celebrities vs paparazzi day takes first place. The Adam Sandlers, invasive paparazzi, Machine Gun Kellys, and Pete Davidsons, radiated positive energy throughout the halls.

#2: Opposite day
Theme uniqueness: ★★☆☆☆
Costume creativity: ★★★★☆
Overall engagement: ★★★★☆
Good Hallway Vibes: ★★★★☆

On the Thursday of spirit week, the beloved opposite day returned. The halls were flooded with laughs and compliments. Everyone was excited to express their opposites, whether it was through aesthetic changes, other uniforms, or teacher outfits, opposite day, wins second place.

#3: In your element day
Theme uniqueness: ★★★★☆
Costume creativity: ★★★☆☆
Overall engagement: ★★☆☆☆
Good Hallway Vibes: ★★★☆☆

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Friday, all four grades lived together in harmony. The themes were top notch; however, the timing could have been better. The proximity to formal overshadowed the entertaining costumes and inspiring common decorations.

#4: Sister day
Theme uniqueness: ★★★★★
Costume creativity: ★★☆☆☆
Overall engagement: ★☆☆☆☆
Good Hallway Vibes: ★★☆☆☆

Monday was the time to shine for those who own James Charles merch or casually have a nun costume. While the costumes were sporadic and slightly expected, the theme was totally unique and on brand; perfect for St. Mary’s.

#5: Blue and white day
Theme uniqueness: ★☆☆☆☆
Costume creativity: ★☆☆☆☆
Overall engagement: ★★★★★
Good Hallway Vibes: ★☆☆☆☆

Blue and white day is a St. Mary’s spirit week staple, and because of that, some enthusiasm has been lost through the years. Despite its ranking, with uniforms, overalls, or all sorts of extravagantly blue and white clothing, every St. Mary’s student represents the school with blue and white.

Through the option of wearing sweatpants for an entire week or the excitement of dressing creatively, spirit week is always an occasion to look forward to.
