This movie, and the rest of the trilogy, are some of my favorites of all time. Obviously, it’s a classic corny rom-com, but the meaning behind the movies reads much deeper. “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” is a movie following Lara Jean Covey, a junior in high school. After private, unsent love letters she had written are mysteriously released to their five recipients, Lara Jean finds herself in a complicated love triangle with the popular Peter Kavinsky and her sister’s ex boyfriend, Josh. Peter and Laura Jean end up in a classic fake-dating situation, but accidentally fall in love. These movies display the quintessential innocent teenage love, including all the corniness and unfortunate dialogue, and they bring me so much joy. Lara Jean articulates her feelings in a way that is relatable to many teen girls, and that relatability gives it an appeal that most adult rom-coms cannot match. It’s true that this movie is imperfect and sometimes the cringe can be overwhelming, but I can tell you that any time I want to watch something and have nothing in mind, or just need a fun pick-me-up, this movie will always be my first choice.
