Best Actor: Miles Teller (“Whiplash”) (R)

Whiplash is a movie that quite literally changed my life and shot itself up to my #1 favorite for a few weeks – so it’s no surprise that Miles Teller’s performance as Andrew Nieman was absolutely incredible.

Every actor in this movie was so captivating in their performances so it was difficult to choose, but the amount of dedication put into this role really sold it for me.

The movie follows Andrew Nieman as he pursues a career as a drummer, attending a prestigious art college. His instructor, Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), is abusive, causing one of his students to commit suicide.

Nieman drums to the point of bleeding and gets into a painful car crash driving to a performance. However, it is never enough for Fletcher, causing Nieman to work even harder to be the greatest.

Louise Lawhead is a sophomore reporter and is looking forward to her second year on Tatler. She is most excited to write not only fun articles about media and trends but also articles on important subjects and advocacy. Outside of school, you may find her in musicals, constantly watching movies or hanging out with her friends. Besides show tunes, her go-to music artists are Tyler, the Creator, TV Girl, Reneé Rapp and Radiohead. If Louise were banned from watching “Carrie” or the original Broadway cast of “Newsies” ever again, she would delete all social media and change her identity. She is looking forward to spending another year with this amazing group!
