Zelda Williams’ Lisa Frankenstein is a charming yet spooky romance between a teenage girl (Kathryn Newton) and a decaying corpse (Cole Sprouse).
Lisa Swallows, a misunderstood outcast at her highschool in 1989, accidentally brings back a Victorian Era dead man, and the two fall in love. Using a broken tanning bed, Lisa magically reattaches The Creature’s body parts, until he becomes handsome again.
Now, as weird as this movie sounds, it was one of the most enjoyable film experiences I had this past year. The film was colorful, fun and bizarre, but still felt meaningful in a nuanced way through its articulation about the treatment of women.
