Top 2024 Releases: “Challengers” (R)

“…For about fifteen seconds there, we were actually playing tennis. And we understood each other completely. So did everyone watching. It’s like we were in love. Or like we didn’t exist. We went somewhere really beautiful together,” – Challengers (2024)

Challengers follows three friends (and love triangle) Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Conner) and Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) as they navigate their tennis careers in college.

The three have a complicated relationship: Tashi dated both of them, but after a huge fight, she breaks up with Patrick and marries Art. However, they’re all still secretly in love with each other?

At the end of the movie, in the middle of a heated tennis match, Art slams the ball across the net, he falls into Patrick’s arms, and they hug. We never find out who won, but in the end, it doesn’t matter. The match reconnected their friendship, and everything resolved as the two embraced.

UGH!!!! Luca Guadagnino is one of the most amazing directors I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching, and I recommend everyone watch at least one of his movies.

Louise Lawhead is a sophomore reporter and is looking forward to her second year on Tatler. She is most excited to write not only fun articles about media and trends but also articles on important subjects and advocacy. Outside of school, you may find her in musicals, constantly watching movies or hanging out with her friends. Besides show tunes, her go-to music artists are Tyler, the Creator, TV Girl, Reneé Rapp and Radiohead. If Louise were banned from watching “Carrie” or the original Broadway cast of “Newsies” ever again, she would delete all social media and change her identity. She is looking forward to spending another year with this amazing group!
