On March 6, the posts started appearing on the Advanced Placement Human Geography Teachers Facebook group page. Two of the daily videos, learning tools created by teachers to reinforce concepts, on AP Classroom had disappeared.
It wasn’t just AP Human Geography. Videos in AP U.S. History, AP World History and AP U.S. Government and Politics also appeared to be missing.
According to Allison Martin Cecil, the AP Human Geography Teachers Facebook group page administrator, a College Board representative said this was intentional.
“Certain AP Daily videos need to be reviewed further and have consequently been removed from AP Classroom,” the AP representative wrote.
Emily Metz, AP Human Geography teacher, noticed the change this morning in her own AP classroom portal.
“The College Board has removed videos for two topics that we have seen for what they call further review,” she said. “They have removed some AP daily videos for topic 7.4 Women and Economic Development and 6.10 Challenges of Urban Changes.”
For Metz, the removal of the videos has the potential to complicate her teaching methods.
“I tend to use AP Daily Videos as supplements if a student is having a hard time with a topic, or if I am out for any reason,” she said. “If a student has questions about specific topics, they now can’t get answers from the College Board about two particular topics in AP Human.”
Metz’s students, however, are not too concerned about the change.
“No, not us, because Mrs. Metz has [her own] slide shows, [we won’t be impacted], but it will impact other people who use it,” freshman Luciana Szatkowski said. “Mrs. Metz is a good teacher, so if other people don’t have good AP Human teachers, that’s probably going to impact them more than it would us.”
Attempts to reach out to the College Board did not immediately result in a comment
The titles of the videos we have identified so far as being removed are included in this document. We will update this as we have more information.
