I am writing regarding your recent article on the Gov Club’s mock election. I appreciated the diverse perspectives you included, but there’s one detail that you didn’t touch on: the ballot only includes two candidates. Realistically, either Harris or Trump will win the election, but in Tennessee, we can pick between several third-party presidential candidates at the polls. Are elections truly democratic if we are given only two options? In the 2020 presidential election, 2,674,908 people voted for a third-party candidate. Regardless of my thoughts about “throwing away a vote,” that’s a significant number of people. I think that would have been a worthwhile addition to your article.
Sincerely,
Charlotte Hernández
