“10 Things I Hate About You”

"10 Things I Hate About You"

Unlike the others on this list, “10 Things I Hate About You” is not a classic 2000s rom-com, but watching this film is your duty as a teenager. In the 1999 film, Julia Stiles plays an edgy teenager who has no interest in relationships. However, her father’s new seemingly clever rule states that Stiles’ younger sister is not allowed to have a boyfriend until Stiles does. In a scheme to help her younger sister, Stiles begrudgingly falls for the one and only Heath Ledger. This is 100% a “feel good” movie. However, the film is actually based on Shakespeare’s play, “The Taming of the Shrew,” so it’s no wonder the movie is so great: it was indirectly written by arguably the greatest writer of all time. From Stiles’ and Ledger’s incredible on-screen chemistry to making the high school experience seem perfectly picturesque, I believe that, like Shakespeare’s plays, this fantastic film will stand the test of time.

Favorite/iconic scene: Stiles’ poem reading, which lists — you guessed it — the 10 things she “hates” about Ledger.
