One of my favorite movies, and dare I say, underrated. Katherine Heigl plays an “always-the-bridesmaid-never-the-bride” character, as she serves as a bridesmaid in 27 weddings. When the man she has loved for years gets stolen by her sister, she is devastated… until she realizes her feelings for the reporter who is drafting a story about her devoted life as a bridesmaid. With James Marsden, Judy Greer and Malin Åkerman, the acting is phenomenal. As many rom-com stereotypes and predictable plot lines as there are, this movie portrays important themes: Heigl comes to realize her self-worth by standing up against her boss who takes her for granted and stepping out from under her sister’s shadow. From a forgotten planner left in a cab, a Cinderella-like reunion and the fashion show of all 27 of her bridesmaids’ dresses, the movie is fun, light-hearted and perfectly cheesy.
