On Nov. 27, the St. Mary’s Turkeys faced off against the Hutchison Bees in their annual game of Powderpuff which was started in 2021. Students spent weeks preparing for the game and fans loved getting to cheer on their fellow classmates. While technically there was only one Powderpuff game, each grade played a quarter. At the end of the night, the results showed as follows for the SMS Turkeys: the Freshman tied, the Sophomores lost, the Juniors won, and the Seniors lost. Despite these results, the Turkeys lost overall this year, but Powderpuff players demonstrated excitement going into the game and are still proud of the collective effort they put in.
“We had a lot of fun and played our hearts out. [It was an] unfortunate result, but we had a blast. On the field, I think we missed a couple of rules in the rule book. We had some direct snap problems which was unfortunate. [It] led to a safety right out of the gate, so the seniors were starting off on a bad foot, but we came back, we fought hard and I’m proud of us.”
“I [was] excited about the competition. I’m a huge competitor, and I love competing against other people. I think it’s so fun that so many people show up to the game. Everyone cheers each other on, and there’s student sections. We don’t usually get student sections, so I [was] excited for the competitiveness.”Â
“I think Powderpuff went great last night even if we did not win. I think the reason we did so much better than last year was the teamwork we showed and how we always had each other’s backs no matter what happened. While we might not have won, It was still very fun and next year we will come back stronger.”
“Our game went pretty well, we got off to a slow start but slowly started picking up the pace and figuring out the other team’s strategy. I think our team definitely needs to work on not letting the other team get in our heads. We just need to play the game how we practiced. However, I think the team did an awesome job, and we worked so well together.”
“I felt like we improved from last year and I feel like our offense was solid. We did better than last year and were more solid than last year.”
“I thought it was well played…and it was a hard fight. I’m happy with how it came out. I mean it would be nice to win, but I’m happy we didn’t lose. [Being quarterback] was a lot of pressure. It was very chaotic and nerve-racking since we’ve never done this before, but it was fun just getting to help the whole team.”
